I want to challenge my students to view themselves as authors and find meaning in the authors they read, including both works of fiction and non-fiction. My own literary adventures have included meeting a wide variety of living authors and traveling to historical author’s homes. My desire is to guide students to seek out similar events and help provide opportunities to attend them, as well as joining with them as a partner author in collaborative and interactive writing projects. My professional goal is to complete my reading specialist certification rooted in my deep concern for students with reading difficulties. My main literary interests are Native American literature, British novels, and American poetry, and I am widely read in current young adult literature. My hobbies include playing the flute, piano, and guitar, which inspire me to incorporate fine arts into my teaching whenever possible.
